RCBS Wet Tumbling Rifle Brass (North Las Vegas) 4-30-2020

In General

Decided to get back into reloading and give the RCBS wet tumbler a try. In past years (25 years ago) I used a dry media tumbler with corn cob and walnut shells. The wet tumbler with stainless pins is superior and I was very happy with the results. The dry media tumbler I have will only be used from now on if I decide to use polish on the brass which probably won't happen very often.

Took a closer look at it this morning from the slotted bottom cover and could not see any belts. Looks like the drive motor is directly connected to a gear box which is directly connected to the drive wheels. They must have updated their design but did not change the description at the RCBS main web site or anywhere else either.

I have more faith in gears than belts anyway.

RCBS P/N 87001. They apparently make or made two different versions with the same part number but I'm fairly sure I have the newer one? I purchased it from Natchez Shooters Supply. The other version or I believe older one had a quick release lid instead of a screw on. The RCBS main site shows the screw on lid but Natchez shows the quick release lid. Also, they say that it's belt driven and quiet. It may have a primary belt coming off the motor but the final drive is definitely gear driven. The drive is not all that quiet either. Other than being a little noisy it ran great and really cleans the brass!

I'm not that concerend with the noise. You tumbled for an hour and it would not have been that clean in 2 or 3 hours in a dry tumbler even with new media. It takes alot anymore to impress me, but that did. Thanks for sharing. Think i'll be ordering one.

Wow what a difference. I’ve only dry tumbled and never took much stock in wet tumbling. Really a big difference. What model RCBS tumbler is it? I think I want one.
